Choosing a photographer can be hard and overwhelming. There are so many of us in the market and we all offer similar packages with different price ranges, so how do you choose which photographer would be great for you and your wedding? While so many of us seem so similar, you’ll be surprised to know that we actually have a ton of differences and there is a perfect photographer out there for you you just have to know what you’re looking for. Let’s get right into it!

1. Hire a true wedding professional

This may seem like a “duh”, but let me explain. There is a lot of power in hiring a TRUE wedding professional that has experience in shooting weddings. Hiring a wedding professional will deliver consistent images no matter what venue you choose or the lighting/weather. Hiring a wedding professional also works to create an experience rather than just showing up on your wedding day and taking pictures. A true professional will also create consistent high-quality images for you to cherish for the rest of your life. It’s important to display your images in other places rather than a folder in your computer. Wedding professionals will offer high-quality prints and albums for you order to celebrate and cherish your love story. Lastly, a true professional wedding photographer will handle the stress for you. A professional photographer will ensure that all of your dream photos are captured and a perfectly curated timeline is created to make sure your wedding day is stress-free for you!

2. Style

When choosing a wedding photographer browse through the photographer’s images to ensure their style matches the style of your wedding. For example, if you are wanting a more luxe wedding you may want to look into luxury, classical wedding photographers that are used to shooting these types of weddings. You may also be eloping or looking for more adventure during your wedding. In this case, hiring an elopement and adventurous photographer would be wise. Whether you love more of a light and airy style, film-inspired style, or moody style of photography, it’s important to find a wedding photographer that fits what you are envisioning for the theme of your wedding.

3. Wedding budget

Another thing you want to consider when choosing a wedding photographer is if they fit into your wedding budget. Every wedding should have an overall budget and then be broken down into multiple categories based on the order of importance to you. The vendors on the top of the list should have a larger budget. If you’ve chosen that the venue and photographer are most important to you then it’s assumed that you have a certain amount you want to spend on photography. You’ll want to make sure that the photographer that you are envisioning shooting your wedding fits inside your budget.

Another important question to consider when chatting with a potential wedding photographer is, are there any other fees that I should be expecting on top of the prices that are listed. These fees could include travel, accommodation, taxes, etc. The last thing you want is to be surprised about are other fees that you weren’t expecting.

4. Personality

Trust me on this one, this and the my next point are probably the most important points. If you take anything away from this blog, then let it be this! A huge requirement is that you must love their personality. A photographers personality not only reflects the experience you will get from them but also the photos you will get throughout your entire wedding experience. Let me explain a bit more. If you are a shy and more reserved couple you may be looking for a photographer that will be more on the reserved side OR you may be looking for a photographer that is more spunky to help you break through your shy side. Whichever route you choose to take, it takes some reflection to see what personality you feel you would connect with. Which leads to my last and final point!

5. Connection

As mentioned above, this is an extremely important point and actually really can make or break your wedding experience. Believe it or not, you photographer is one of your most important vendors. Not only because they’re the going to be capturing the memories of your wedding day but also because your photographer will be following you around all day long on your wedding day. If you do not have a good connection with your photographer, it will most definitely put a damper on your overall wedding experience. The best way to test your connection and the personality of a potential wedding photographer is to get them on the phone or on a Zoom call. By doing this, you get the opportunity to get to know them, ask any question you have, and ultimately see if this photographer is someone you could spend all day with on one of the most important days of your life!

BONUS TIP: Go with your gut, it’s usually correct. If you have a great feeling about your photographer and just they just warm your heart. BOOK THEM! Your gut feeling is usually the right one!
