Meet Evan | Owner and Lead Photographer of Evan Lane Photography, LLC

September 27, 2019

Hey Friends! Welcome to my blog! I’m pretty new at this, so bare with me until I get the hang of things. I wanted to use this time to tell you a bit about myself and why i’m beginning this journey at such a pivotal and busy time in my life. So let’s get to the good stuff!

As you already know, my name is Evan. “Lane” is actually my middle name. I don’t typically go by Evan Lane although I do love it. My full name is Evan Schultz but will soon be changed as I am getting married in just a few short months in June of 2020 to my love. Tyler and I met in August of 2013 in college at Catawba College. He played Golf and I played Volleyball. For the last six years, we’ve done pretty much everything together and have never questioned our love for each other. In January of 2017, we moved to Lynchburg, Virginia to start our lives together. He was starting his career as a corrugated packaging salesman and I, a master’s student, looking to receive a degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

A few months after Tyler and I moved in together, we got one of the most precious gift in our lives, a Golden Retriever Pup named Ellie May. She was a ball of energy (as any puppy would be) but also had some complications which grew expensive and took a toll on Tyler and I emotionally. As she grew a bit older, she became the healthy and happy ball of energy we all knew her to be.

Fast forward two years, I am growing towards the end of my journey as a Master’s student, Tyler and I are getting married, our pup is now almost 3 years old, and I have now started a photography business. Some of you are probably thinking, “what?”, “why now?”. Well, I am, of course, still clinging onto my degree that I spend a large amount of time getting internship hours for. In the past, I spent so much other time doing nothing but that. I worked as a full time Intensive In Home Counselor, I was also a full time student, while also trying to be emotionally and physically present for Tyler and my family. Busy right? Now that my life has slowed down a bit and I work on my internship, one of my main take aways while getting my master’s degree has been self care. Being in the counseling field can be draining and takes a lot out of me. You can only put as much energy towards others as much as you give yourself. Therefore, I decided to take a step back and reevaluate what was healthy for me. I need to make self care a priority; but, how?

Self care can come in many forms and it was right under my nose the whole time. Something I learned about myself is that I have trouble relaxing. Relaxation that looks like just sitting on the couch and watching tv. My mind is always racing and telling me that I should be doing something that meets a specific deadline, etc. But, again, this was extremely exhausting and causing me to burn out. Therefore, I learned (through trial and error) that a great form of self-care for myself is exercising my mind differently through photography. It completely changed my perspective on life and gave me something to work on that was nothing like counseling, but still allowed me to fulfill my passion for serving others.

Photography has always been a passion of mine. When Tyler and I got engaged in March of 2018, we began the wedding planning process. Scary, I know. I began to look at all the wedding portraits and dreamed about being that bride in the photos and having a photographer that could capture the love and excitement Tyler and I shared. Once we found the photographer for us, that is exactly what we are living and we couldn’t be happier!

Now, looking at myself as a photographer just getting into the wedding photography business, I work to create a relationship-based experience and a smooth-sailing process that is as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. It is my mission as a wedding and portrait photographer with a passion for serving other and love stories to capture authentic love and create timeless heirlooms that leave a family legacy of love and happiness.

If you’ll stick around for a bit, i’ll be sharing wedding galleries very soon on my blog. Sneak peeks of engagement and wedding session will be up on my social media shortly after the event and blog posts consisting of the wedding gallery will be posted on Thursdays. I’m SO excited to be sharing my journey with you through this platform. I hope you’ll stick around to read them and enjoy them as much as I enjoyed creating this for you!
